Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who also present with sleep bruxism can pose unique diagnostic and treatment planning challengesfor clinicians practicing dental sleep medicine. The overlap between OSA, bruxism, and temporomandibular disorders (TMD) can complicatecase selection, risk assessment, and long-term treatment success when using oral appliance therapy.

Presented by SomnoMed, this webinar will feature Preetanjali Thakur, BDS, MS, of Minnesota Head & Neck Pain Clinic, who will explore theclinical relationship between OSA and sleep bruxism and discuss key considerations when managing patients with potential TMJ involvement.Through a combination of clinical insights and case-based discussion, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to recognize riskfactors, differentiate TMJ pain sources, and manage more complex OSA patients effectively.

Dr. Preetanjali Thakur

Dr. Preetanjali Thakur is a board-certified orofacial pain specialist at the Minnesota Head and Neck Pain Clinic, where she provides comprehensive care for both adults and children with temporomandibular disorders (TMD), orofacial pain conditions, and headache disorders. She has extensive experience in the management of obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders, with a particular focus on oral appliance therapy, co-morbid conditions and sleep-related conditions.

With over 12 years of experience managing complex cases, she completed her fellowship, residency, and Master of Dental Science at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Thakur has also been involved in research at both the university level and within the VA healthcare system. She is committed to ongoing professional development and regularly participates in national conferences and local study clubs, collaborating with dental and medical colleagues to improve access to care and promote interdisciplinary treatment approaches. Dr. Thakur is a strong advocate for patient-centered, evidence-based care, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative and individualized approach to managing complex orofacial pain and sleep-related disorders.
